Overcoming fear

Learning to ride a two-wheeler as an adult is one of the most liberating experiences. However, for many, the initial thought of balancing a heavy machine in traffic can trigger significant anxiety. If you feel this way, you are not alone.

1. Start with the Engine Off

The biggest mistake beginners make is trying to balance and control the throttle at the same time. At My1stRide, we spend the first session with the engine completely off. You'll simply sit on the scooter, push yourself with your feet, and get a feel for the weight and brakes.

2. Master the Brakes First

Confidence comes from knowing you can stop. Before you learn to accelerate, you must learn to stop smoothly. Practice squeezing the brakes gently while walking the scooter. Knowing you are in total control of stopping eliminates 80% of the fear.

3. Have a Professional Beside You

Learning from a friend or family member often leads to stress and arguments. A professional trainer understands the psychology of a nervous beginner. They won't yell, they won't rush you, and they know exactly how to break the process down into bite-sized, manageable steps.
